Heyday by the Sea is the quietest beach cottage we could find within reach of Trivandrum airport. It is a twelve-kilometre drive from the runway, tucked into a lane off Veli, and the beach is a five-minute walk. A garden runs the length of the cottage, with a terrace that looks over the coconut palms toward the sea.
This is the resort for a short, slow Kerala week, three or four days of fish markets, beach walks at five in the morning, and Kovalam a short drive south for the afternoon. It also works as the first or last stop on a longer Kerala trip, since the airport is so close.
One bedroom, one bath, a small living area that opens to the garden. Not a hotel, not a resort lobby. A caretaker is on the property but you rarely see him unless you ask.

The sea at five in the morning

Fish market and breakfast
The Veli market is loud and good. Pick what you want; the caretaker will cook it for lunch.
Kovalam in the afternoon
Fifteen minutes south. Leave after breakfast, swim, eat, back for dusk.
Trivandrum day trip
The Napier Museum, the Padmanabhaswamy temple, a long south Indian lunch.
Breakfast is included and served on the terrace. Appam with stew, puttu with kadala, south Indian coffee. Lunch can be cooked in-cottage if you want, seafood from the Veli market is the usual choice. Dinner we usually point you to the places we like in Trivandrum.

By air
Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) is 12 km away, twenty minutes by car. We can send a driver.
By train
Trivandrum Central (TVC) is 10 km, fifteen minutes by road.
By road
From Kovalam it is 13 km. From Kochi via NH66, about six hours.
