The place

A three-bedroom villa on a full acre, set just above the Vagamon tea gardens. The infinity pool runs to the edge of the property and seems to end in the Idukki hills. Breakfast is on the balcony, the mist comes and goes, and the whole place is yours for the nights you book.

Heyday Vagamon is the first resort we opened, and it is still the one people write about. The villa sits on a ridge at roughly 1,100 metres. From the pool, the eye travels past cardamom and pine and settles on the far range of the Western Ghats. The infinity pool is heated in the cool months, so the water works year-round.

The house is built low and wide so that every room faces the valley. Two independent huts stand on the grass beside the main villa for couples who want a little more privacy. Children have their own smaller pool. The caretaker lives on the land and is usually in the kitchen before the first guest is awake.

Vagamon itself is the quiet alternative to Munnar. The crowds are thinner, the meadows are emptier, and the drive in from Kottayam is one of the prettier roads in Kerala. If you want a hill resort in Kerala without the tour-bus traffic, this is the one.

Ideal for
  • Couples who want the Kerala hill-resort feel without the crowds of Munnar
  • Small families, there is a children's pool and a large lawn
  • Groups of six who want to take the whole property for a long weekend
  • Honeymooners, the pool at dusk is the picture everyone takes home

Breakfast included. We reply within a day and a 25% advance holds your dates.
